Describing Green

It is the color of spring and summer, with wide-stretching suburban lawns nestled alongside pastures.

It is the smell of lime, trickled over fish, and water, and the soft, overturned earth.

It is the touch of jealousy the family dog feels when she sees and interrupts Mom cuddling with the kitten on the couch.

It is the taste of licorice, sharp and sweet and slithering along the back of your tongue to slam into your throat.

It is the sound of loggers and suits exchanging money while saws and bulldozers go plowing through trees and raising fields in exotic places to make paper and clear land for cattle and housing developments.

It is the color of hope rising up between the cracks in the sidewalks and blooming from the ashes of the California wildfires.
