It is the taste of licorice, sharp and sweet and slithering along the back of your tongue to slam into your throat.
It is the sound of loggers and suits exchanging money while saws and bulldozers go plowing through trees and raising fields in exotic places to make paper and clear land for cattle and housing developments.
It is the color of hope rising up between the cracks in the sidewalks and blooming from the ashes of the California wildfires.
