C.L. Mannarino graduated from Framingham State University with a Bachelors in English. She began writing books about vampires, stubborn teenagers, and exasperated parents when she was in high school, and hasn’t stopped since. She lives in Massachusetts with her family. What We’ll Do for Blood is her first book.
More than you ever wanted to know version:
I’ve lived in Massachusetts all my life, surrounded by two sisters and one brother, all younger. With the addition of two dogs, a cat, and some fish, it makes Mom’s tiny house much louder than you’d expect it to be.
I also grew up surrounded by books. I was fortunate to have parents who never looked twice at what I was reading, something I was especially grateful for during my bodice-ripping romance stage of reading. Before that, though, I told myself lots of stories while sitting on our backyard swing. After a couple flimsy attempts at writing some of them, and the stories I told with my Barbies, down, my mom bought us a copy of Harry Potter.
At some point in the juncture between reading that series, watching Digimon, and hearing about the Fellowship of the Ring coming to theaters, I decided I could write something like Harry Potter. I loved all the things in that series, after all.
I wrote my first finished fan fic story at age eleven, along with a number of unfinished ripoffs of Harry Potter and LOTR romances (no crossover, though). It wasn’t until I got to high school that I started writing seriously, and only after learning that a girl I knew was attempting NaNoWriMo. I decided to prove that I could do it, too, and that I could beat her at finishing. (I did, by default, because she had to quit halfway. I’m also pretty sure she didn’t know I was competing with her.)
It wasn’t until Twilight came out, though, that I drafted what eventually became What We’ll Do for Blood, out of a desire to prove that I could write better vampires. Seven years, a few other books, and at least four drafts later, I published the first book in the Almost Human Series. In that time, I also graduated from college, met my boyfriend, and got my first full-time job.
Right now, I’m working on finishing up the Almost Human Series, and at the same time launch a second series set in the same universe (but about a different town).
In addition to writing, I also love baking, cooking, gardening, taking walks, watching nail and makeup tutorials, listening to film scores, oil painting, and watching TV with my family. My favorite authors are: JK Rowling, Gail Carson Levine, Phillip Pullman, Susan Dennard, Rebecca Wells, Tana French, Janet Fitch, Anne Bishop, Michelle Zink, Ellen Hopkins, and Judy Blume.
